Origin Story… Form a Swarm

15 March 2026

We have these difficult conversations periodically. Where some home truths are spoken.

I’m generally not the initiator of those conversations.

But on this occasion I did.

We were sat being driven to the airport, to be flown to Fuerteventura (again).

On the way, a straightforward question I’d not asked.

“Have you read the book?” asked Ollie, our fab taxi driver.

Not to me. To Mrs Fox!

“Yes,” she replied, “and it was really very good.”

Well blimey, I hadn’t expected that.

Mrs F is my hardest critic. After 35 years, fortunately, she speaks only the truth.

So I sat on that information until an odd rainy day in Fuerteventura a week later.

“So the book’s good then?”

That was my opening line to what I knew wouldn’t be a praise-filled conversation.

“Yes, it’s excellent and you know it is. But it doesn’t tell me how to use it. So you need a manual. I wouldn’t have bought a piece of equipment for the hospital without a manual, why should Swarm of Change be any different? Like one of your proposals, but not as dull as them. More like Swarm of Change.”

And that was it.

Permission granted for writing Form a Swarm.

You judge if it’s a proposal you can work with.

DIY-led change, essentially in 30-minute chunks a week.
